»Dr. Siegmund Freud Kassa-Protokoll« (oder die Patienten, die es nie gab): Untersuchung einer Fälschung (S. 164–195)
Zusammenfassung: Das »Kassa-Protokoll« ist das Rechnungsbuch eines Arztes, in dem seine Visiten und Sprechstundentermine für alle Patienten in den Jahren 1896?1899 verzeichnet sind; es liegt in der Sigmund Freud Collection in der Library of Congress (Washington). Das Buch hat zwar in der Sekundärliteratur wenig Beachtung gefunden, wurde aber von denen, die sich damit befasst haben, Freud zugeschrieben, und es wurden daraus Rückschlüsse auf Freuds ärztliche Praxis gegen Ende der 1890er-Jahre gezogen. Obwohl es den Namen Freuds auf dem Einband trägt, wird hier die These vertreten, dass es nicht von Freud stammt und gar nichts mit ihm zu tun hat. Es handelt sich vielmehr um eine ziemlich plumpe Fälschung. Mögliche Gründe für die Aufnahme des Dokuments in das Freud-Archiv werden ebenso erörtert wie die Frage, warum die Fälschung von der Freud-Forschung so lange unentdeckt geblieben ist.

The »Kassa-Protokoll« is a record book of a doctor’s patients and appointments from 1896-9, which is held in the Sigmund Freud Collection in the Library of Congress, Washington. Although it has received little attention in the secondary literature, those who have discussed it have attributed it to Freud, and conclusions have been drawn from it about Freud’s medical practice at the end of the 1890s. Although the book has Freud’s name on the cover it is argued here that the book was never Freud’s and has nothing to do with him. It is in fact a fairly crude forgery. Possible reasons for the incorporation of this into the Freud Archives are discussed, alongside a consideration of why the forgery has been undetected by Freud scholars for so long.
