Wenig bekannt ist die ursprüngliche Quelle dieser Anekdote. Wenn wir sie aber nicht kennen, wie können wir wissen, ob Groddeck diesen Satz wirklich sagte? Man muss die Dokumente (Briefe, Schriften) und die Biografien von Freud und Groddeck befragen, um eine Antwort zu finden. Dank dieser Forschung kann man sehen, dass die Biografien nicht immer genau sind und dass der Satz Groddecks neben der bekannteren Bedeutung der Provokation in Bezug auf das Thema der wilden Analyse auch eine andere Bedeutung hat, die auf die Beziehung zwischen Groddeck und Freud zurückführt.

To find an answer, we need to consult the documents (letters, writings) and biographies of Freud and Groddeck. Thanks to this research, we can see that biographies are not always accurate and that Groddeck’s phrase, in addition to its more familiar meaning of provocation in relation to the topic of wild analysis, also has another meaning that can be traced back to the relationship between Groddeck and Freud.
